Giving others the push they need
ver the years we have struggled seeing entrepreneurial people with skills and desire to work but with no funding available, and with no chance to get a bank loan because they have no collateral. GCLA believes that sometimes a microloan can dramatically change the outlook and possibilities for a person to succeed and bring their family out of extreme poverty. Several churches within the movement provide microloans for people in their community to start new prospective businesses or add on to a current business they run. Unlike in the United States, sometimes a $75 microloan can provide a huge opportunity for someone who’s used to making $2 per day to bring themselves up out of their impoverished condition.
Some of you had the initiative to raise funds to create a non-profit in the US to grant microloans for people with the potential to generate profit. These small loans of $200 to $1,000 have helped many people get on their feet. We give them training on how to do business plans, manage inventory, provide good customer service, and teach them business ethics and values. We visit them weekly to listen and help them solve their problems, to assist them in getting licenses and permits; all this with the goal of seeing them take off in their venture. So far we have generated 263 loans totaling $123,550, and that is just the beginning.
